Of course the title is a bit silly; however, we all have come across many ruined snare drumsticks that have been destroyed over time. Through normal wear and tear these percussion instruments become almost worthless, at least that is what I though when my pair of sticks just don’t cut it any more. Since all of us real drummers out there know that we are always hacking around on any surface that we can find, we need to wrap up our sticks.
I know that I have ruined a pair of Vic Firth’s because I was hacking on a surface that was too hard. These wooden drumsticks are not intended for that kind of abuse. I know that when I was marching with the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps in 2002, we were ruining many of our wooden drumsticks every day. Luckily we did have Vic Firth as a sponsor, so we had plenty of sticks available to replace. But most of us are not that lucky, and if we are only using our drumsticks for practicing around with, then there is a better option then throwing out your old sticks. They make rubber practice tips that slide onto the tip of your snare drumsticks. This has provided me with more realistic feedback when practicing away from the snare. It also has saved me money from purchasing more sticks.
I would highly recommend anyone who is a percussionist to invest in these drumstick practice tips. They really will save you a lot of money.
